From November 20 to 30, Theatre Passe Muraille and Open Heart Surgery Theatre invite Toronto audiences into the world of Erased, an innovative, genre-blending theatrical experience by Coleen Shirin MacPherson. Set in a dystopian greeting card factory where workers are trapped by machines, Erased uses absurdism, dark comedy, and political theatre to explore themes of resistance, capitalism, and survival in a post-climate-collapse society. This thought-provoking, 11-member physical theatre piece, inspired by MacPherson’s experiences in France, promises a unique mix of poetry and visuals designed to leave audiences reflecting on the systems that shape our lives.

Erased is the latest evolution of a project that began as a response to capitalism’s pressures, premiering in the UK and later adapted into a film-play broadcast in New York. Developed with an array of artists from Toronto, London, and New York, and featuring contributions from York University’s Devised Theatre program, the show promises a collaborative, powerful look at humanity’s drive to resist and endure.

Catch Erased at Theatre Passe Muraille (16 Ryerson Ave, Toronto) and join the conversation on November 23 and 27 with post-show discussions led by York University’s Theatre Department. Opening night is on November 22 at 7:30 PM, with relaxed performances throughout and special mask-required shows on select dates. Tickets are available through Theatre Passe Muraille’s website. This unforgettable experience is a must for anyone interested in the intersection of art, activism, and absurdity.
