Known for its nightlife and the jet-setting lifestyles of the rich and famous, Cabo San Lucas and Los Cabos (both often referred to as “Cabo”) are little treasures on the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula in Mexico.
Whether you’re in the area for the whale watching, deep-sea diving, fishing or golfing, a beautiful place to stay is Dreams Los Cabos Suites Golf Resort & Spa. This 5-star property caters for luxury and clientele with high expectations. You’ll find friendly, attentive staff who make an effort to get to know you and anticipate your needs. Tax and gratuities are included at booking, and you can forget the ridiculous wristbands during your stay at Dreams. All this, within close proximity to shopping and the peninsula’s must-see attractions.
Dreams Resort has a very romantic and serene feeling to it. I was struck with a sense of calm and reflectiveness upon arrival after a long day of flying and airport transfers. My mind immediately felt quieted. There is a real sense of beauty and effortless elegance to the property.
Rooms with a View
Expect beautifully appointed suites with private balconies and gorgeous beach views. You’ll have a daily refreshed minibar with soft drinks, bottled water and beer. With 24-hour room and concierge services, feel free to order a wide selection of food at any time of day or night, in-suite at no additional costs. Visiting with your family but want an evening to yourselves? No problem, contact the concierge in advance to arrange babysitting for your little ones. Always a nice touch, and to help ensure guests have nothing but sweet dreams, you’ll enjoy nightly turn-down services throughout your stay. Top that off with free, high speed, reliable Wi-Fi and free international calling to the US, Canada and Mexico.
To Dine For
There are seven options to choose from for dining, including four à la carte restaurants, a buffet, a grill and a café, all with no reservations required. My favorites were the World Café for solid buffet breakfast selections, including traditional Mexican options, fresh smoothies and juices. If you’re a seafood lover or just want to try something new, make sure to visit Oceana for fresh, delicious options from the sea. Visit Coco Café for a variety of coffee options, blended and made-to-order smoothies, pastries and sandwiches.
Unfortunately, on my visit to Portofino the Mediterranean restaurant on site, I waited unbearably long for my steak which was only lukewarm when it arrived (although other people’s food were served piping hot), and I was given a regular dinner knife instead of one for steak.
Resort Activities, Amenities and Bonuses
If it’s golf you’re after, Dreams is within close proximity to three professional golf courses. On site, you’ll enjoy keeping up with your yoga and Pilates routines, or take in some aqua gym classes. Jogging along the beach not enough for your workout regime? Enjoy the resort’s state-of-the-art fitness center.
Like to keep busy? The daily activities include cooking and cocktail lessons, tequila tastings, archery and movies under the stars.
There are three swimming options on the property, including an adult only pool on the far side of the resort; the main pool boasts a water slide and all with deck (and beachside) wait service.
Do not leave the resort without indulging and invigorating your senses with a day in the Dreams Spa by Pevonia. Enjoy spa body treatments including chocolate and seaweed wraps, body exfoliation, aromatic moor mud or sea salt hydrotherapy. There are also a number of massage treatment options including a stress reducing foot massage that will melt away all your cares.
Just for Kids
Children aged 3 – 12 can enjoy the Explorer Club for daily supervised adventure and activities including a rock climbing wall, kids bungee jumping, playground and activity center based around nature, science and exploration.
And the Beach
It is important to note that there are very strong ocean currents where the Pacific meets the Sea of Cortés, therefore many of the beaches in Cabo San Lucas and Los Cabos area not recommended for swimming or may be designated as non-swimmable. Do check online before your visit for updated lists of swimmable beaches in Cabos San Lucas and the surrounding area.
Dreams Los Cabos is a turtle friendly private beach. The staff and management are serious in their efforts to protect the sea turtle population, so everyone is on the look-out from July through December during hatching season. Watch in wonder as the baby turtles break through their shells and make their first tentative steps to their ocean home.
Where to Visit
Be sure to plan a visit to El Arco before dusk for one of the most beautiful sunsets in the country with a backdrop of the iconic and distinctive rock formations of the peninsula. Make sure to have priority pass membership to experience VIP like feature during your abroad journey.
Visit the colonial city of San Jose del Cabo. Walk through the streets and peep into the stores while artisans create their wares. It’s a charming and picturesque little town with an intimate feel.
