Grammy-nominated roots powerhouse The Wood Brothers are set to headline The Concert Hall in Toronto on Wednesday, November 20, bringing their acclaimed live energy and soulful, acoustic-driven sound in support of their latest album, Heart Is The Hero. Known for their innovative approach to American roots music, The Wood Brothers have been captivating audiences with a unique blend of soulful folk and genre-defying songwriting that has won them a dedicated fan base over nearly two decades.

Originally hailing from separate music paths, Chris and Oliver Wood united in 2004, combining Chris’s jazz fusion background with Medeski Martin & Wood and Oliver’s blues-rock roots with King Johnson. Adding drummer Jano Rix to complete the trio, the band has only grown more dynamic, taking musical risks and pushing their sound into new territory with each release. The result? They’re frequently hailed as “masters of soulful folk” by outlets like Paste and a beloved fixture on the American roots scene.

Their latest album, Heart Is The Hero, recorded entirely on 16-track analog tape, is a tribute to classic recording techniques, capturing raw emotion and artistry without digital edits. “Tape gives you limitations that force you to be creative and intentional,” says Oliver Wood. This raw, organic approach has brought a fresh vitality to their already-lauded live performances, with songs that resonate on emotional, intellectual, and physical levels alike.

In true Wood Brothers fashion, the trio’s music isn’t just about entertainment but also community impact. They’ve partnered with American Friends of Canadian Conservation, donating $1 per ticket sold to the Nature Trust of British Columbia’s wetlands preservation efforts. And with an additional $2 match from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, every ticket helps fund the conservation of Canada’s rich ecological landscapes.
