Bored at work? Stuck in yet another Zoom call that feels more doom than room? Lester Trips (Theatre) gets it—and they’re ready to show you just how absurd our tech-dominated world has become in their darkly comedic, body-horror spectacle, Honey I’m Home. Running from November 21 to December 1, 2024, at Factory Theatre’s Studio Theatre, this is a show you’ll laugh, squirm, and possibly question your life choices through.

The Story
In a not-so-distant future, Janine, an overachieving workaholic, decides to escape her mind-numbing job by uploading her consciousness into her home. Sounds relaxing, right? Not so fast—spotty Wi-Fi has other plans. What starts as a surreal self-care experiment quickly spirals into a dystopian nightmare full of unsettling revelations, all set in a world where technology rules and the concept of “wellness” is a corporate buzzword.

With a sharp satirical edge, creators and performers Lauren Gillis and Alaine Hutton shine a spotlight on the bizarre and often terrifying intersections of humanity and artificial intelligence. Think Zoom purgatory meets Black Mirror—with a side of butoh-inspired movement.

What to Expect
This 60–70-minute gem offers more than just laughs. Featuring a dense, otherworldly soundscape from S. Quinn Hoodless and vocal coaching by the acclaimed Fides Krucker, the production immerses you in a chilling yet hilarious digital limbo. Lighting designer Andre du Toit and movement coach Denise Fujiwara add an eerie, physical depth that makes the piece as visually striking as it is thought-provoking.

Artistic Director of Factory Theatre, Mel Hague, perfectly captures the essence of the production: “Lauren and Alaine have honed an uncanny ability to observe the deeply uncomfortable things we’ve normalized and pull that discomfort to the surface.”
