Roncevalles, affectionately known as Roncy, is a Toronto gem of a neighbourhood, filled with cute shops, watering holes, and a plethora of eateries. Food Nook Tours offers a great introduction to some of the best places to check out in this little village within the city.
The Food Nook Tours, led by the charming, and upbeat guide Bria Weaver, is a great way to discover Roncesvalles. Between food stops, Bria offers bits of neighbourhood history, and fun facts.
At roughly two hours, this easygoing food tour offers five stops where you can taste delicious samples, and if you are so inclined, make purchases along the way. If you’re like me, it will be hard to pick a favorite, because each stop is delicious.
Food Nook’s first stop is Chocolateria where we sampled melt in your mouth chocolates including their famous chocolate covered potato chips. Their versions of Score and Crunchie bars are to die for.
We then made our way to Fantail. I am so excited that I discovered this joint. The New Zealand owners have created a stylish bakery and the food is positively divine. I fell in love with their Vanilla Custard Brioche. I will definitely be heading back for more.
The Mercantile is a Roncy mainstay. An old-fashioned style market, it’s like walking into the 1800’s but the food available is ultra modern. We sampled Mado’s Pepper Sauce and everyone on the tour bought a bottle to take home.
De La Mer offers the highest quality fish which they smoke in house. I left the fish market with Smoked Candied Salmon and the Lobster Mac and Cheese.
Our last stop was Barque’s Butcher Bar, where we got to sample various selections of yummy hot sauce. Check out their robust dining menu for a full list of their offerings.
Food Nook Tour costs $30 and you’ll definitely feel full by the end. For more information, please visit: http://www.foodnooktours.com/
