Toronto’s Factory Theatre is about to dive into uncharted territory with “I Don’t Even Miss You”, a boundary-pushing, dystopian solo show that’s as visually captivating as it is thought-provoking. This bold new production from Tiny Bear Jaws blends live music, video, and choreography to bring a deeply personal and tech-twisted exploration of resilience, gender, and love to the Toronto stage.

What’s the Story?

Written and performed by the dynamic Elena Belyea—winner of the 2023 Betty Award for Outstanding Lead Performance—“I Don’t Even Miss You” kicks off with a simple but unnerving scenario: non-binary programmer Basil (they/them) wakes up one day to find that everyone else on Earth has vanished. With only a virtual assistant, Orchid, as their companion, Basil grapples with loneliness, identity, and memories while working on a musical about their life in a 90s pop-inspired twist. After three years of solitude, they’re finally ready to premiere the show for an empty world, but things don’t go quite as planned.

Why See It?

This isn’t your typical theatre night out. Directed by Emma Tibaldo with a gripping original score by Tori Morrison, “I Don’t Even Miss You” is a whirlwind of storytelling that questions what it means to be human in a world where no one’s left to observe you. The show tackles deep questions about identity, gender, and family in a hauntingly quiet, post-apocalyptic setting. Through its clever use of video, movement, and music, it brings a touching, humorous, and at times eerie portrayal of a life lived in isolation, making it a perfect watch for anyone interested in thought-provoking art that challenges the boundaries of theatre.

Real Buzz from the Reviews

Praised by Intermission Magazine as a play that “touches the heart in different ways all at once,” and called “a moving piece of theatre that lingers long after its unconventional conclusion” by Broadway World, this play is quickly becoming a must-see for Toronto’s art lovers.

Who Should Go?
Anyone aged 14 and up who’s down for an immersive, unforgettable experience will find something to connect with here. With its poignant themes and Basil’s quirky, self-reflective narrative, “I Don’t Even Miss You” is especially perfect for Gen Z and young millennials seeking stories that speak to the complexity of identity and the digital age.
