Digital Dreams Music Festival: Your EDM fantasies are real

Bud Light presents the Digital Dreams Music Festival Toronto

It’s amazing for me to witness the resurgence of Electronic Dance Music (EDM). For those of us old enough to remember Jungle nights at Lime Light or the iconic Bib Bop, this musical genre really hasn’t ever gone away. It slipped a bit in the mid-2000s in North America until DJs began better promoting themselves and in turn ended up becoming the show.  It was at that time that TomorrowLand began in Belgium and became the largest EDM music festival in world. Sold out each year, they’ve now created a US version planned for September.

But Canada has always had dance roots, creating many of the artists from the 90s and early 2000s and cultivating a rave culture that continues today. It only seems natural that we too should have an epic outdoor party. Enter the Digital Dreams Music Festival Toronto. Having grown over the last three years, it’s now officially the largest EDM festival in Canada (Veld numbers come out in August) and continues to prove our appetite for outdoor events can’t be quenched.

Though others will undoubtedly argue with me on this next point, I still contend, this year’s lineup looks to be the best yet. With DJs including Tiesto, Justice, Deep Dish, Dash Berlin, Flux Pavilion, Dimitri Vegas, Danny Tenaglia, Fedde le Grand and Paul Oakenfold, you’ve got all your important music genres covered. I haven’t seen Dash in ages so I’m beyond excited to catch that one and Fedde le Grand won me over since releasing “Put Your Hands Up For Detroit” and “So Much Love.” Of course there will be some new standouts this year as there are every year, and tons of after parties to continue the vibe throughout the weekend.

Digital Dreams makes your EDM fantasies real

There is no party like a Digital Dreams party.

Don’t just go with what I say though, as curator of Digital Dreams’ massive event, Ryan Kruger has put together what he also considers to be the best line-up of his 20+ year electronic career. “This entire line-up is based on what I would personally want to see at a festival. Not necessarily everything I want at this particular moment, but what I feel I would want if I was at various stages of my musical life. There’s the early 20’s phase, the mid to late 20’s and the later years where I find myself today. Whether it’s the top 10 DJs in the world from this year or the past 20 years, they are all here.”

Returning to the Flats at Molson Canadian Amphitheatre, located inside Ontario Place, the venue promises to be a better experience this year than in years’ past, with a new cashless payment system integrated into your RFID wristband – something TomorrowLand has been using for several years. It’s a much safer way to make sure you’re not receiving fake tickets and makes everything that much easier, especially for drink lineups.

Get yourself a new pair of sneakers, make sure you’ve got your muscle shirt handy and grab your friends. Tickets for the two day festival are still available via Ticketmaster and you can get all the information here. And if you’re really up to partying all weekend there’s Electric Island on July 1 if you still have the energy.
