Los Cabos won’t be stopped

It’s a real testament to the determination of the people of Los Cabos that they were able to successfully pull off a major film festival in their small city, mere weeks after the devastation of Hurricane Odile.

The event was well attended by international press and garnered special appearances by the likes of Reese Witherspoon, Rosario Dawson, Diego Luna, Natalia Tena and Richa Chadda.

The festival works for a variety of reasons—among them, it brings together both the initiated and uninitiated within the film industry, while also celebrating American, Canadian and Mexican movie making. As an added bonus, several major deals were solidified during the five-day production.

Many of the major hotels and businesses in the area are still in the midst of repairs after Odile and remain closed. The locals at the properties and businesses that were unaffected or fortunate enough to have completed repairs, were warm and welcoming, seemingly grateful that the festival had brought people back to their city—signaling a return to normalcy.

Throughout the film festival there was no rain and though the skies were sometimes threatening, the sun never ceased to shine, much like the spirit of the people of Los Cabos.
