Toronto Island welcomes Bestival on June 12 and 13 featuring some of today’s hottest artists. The Scene was luckily enough to track down the guys of KEYS N KRATES between their show circuit. The team of Adam Tune (drummer), David Matisse (synthesizer/keyboardist), and Jr. Flo (turntablist) may hail from Toronto, Canada but have themselves known around the world.
Keys N Krates put out a ton of original music in 2013. And then, their September SOLOW EP release on Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak Records featured “Treat Me Right” which launched with the support of Diplo, Major Lazer, Flosstradamus and TNGHT. Since then, the band has been killing it, show after show. It’s great to have them back in Toronto celebrating on the Island
TheSceneInTO: Thinking back to when you started, was there ever a moment when you thought of giving up? If so, what pushed you on?
Flo: Nope! For some reason we’ve never thought of giving up, maybe cause we are a bit insane.
TheSceneInTO: Anything new you’re trying with your music? Any collaboration we’ll hear of shortly?
Tune: We are in the very beginning stages of working on our next ep. We’ve been in the lab with a bunch of different vocalists/writers, collecting vocal samples and ideas, but we really don’t like speaking on anything until it materializes into a song we know we are going to put out for sure.
TheSceneInTO: You’ve played a lot of music festivals, having just come off Coachella, which one has been your favourite?
Matisse: Coachella was definitely a highlight! Electric Forest and Lollapolooza are also favs.
TheSceneInTO: Anywhere you haven’t played yet that you’d really like to?
Flo: We’d love to play in the UK.
TheSceneInTO: What top artist(s), DJ, producer are on your radar?
Tune: We listen to so much music and draw inspiration from it all. We are listening to everyone from Hudson Mohawke to Caribou.
