Brace yourselves, Toronto: British psych-rock icons Kula Shaker are landing at the Mod Club on Thursday, September 18, and it’s set to be a cosmic collision of nostalgia, mysticism, and pure musical energy.

Formed in London in the early ’90s, Kula Shaker rose to fame with their distinctive blend of Brit-pop and Eastern mysticism—think jangly guitars, cascading sitar, and Sanskrit-laced lyrics. Their debut album, K, soared to No. 1 in the UK with hits like Tattva, Govinda, and Hey Dude—the latter sparking both fervent love and controversy.

Fast forward to today, and the band—led by enigmatic frontman Crispian Mills (son of actress Hayley Mills and grandson of Sir John Mills)—is still reawakening souls with their psychedelic, spiritual sound. Their seventh studio album, Natural Magick, released in 2024, not only reunited the band’s classic lineup (including keyboardist Jay Darlington) but also climbed to No. 22 on the UK charts.

They’re not slowing down. On August 4, they unleashed a sizzling new single, “Broke As Folk,” weaving Doors-style grooves, a moody organ solo by Jay, and lyrics that channel a soulful grievance with the modern moment—a track Mills describes as both tongue-in-cheek and warmly communal.

What keeps Kula Shaker vibrant? Mills says it’s their live presence: “I think people don’t really ‘get’ Kula Shaker until they’ve seen them live… we reinterpret the songs each night, depending on the vibe,” he recently told Rock and Roll Globe.

Their Toronto return promises all that and more: a feel-good fusion of cosmic rock, spiritual sweetness, and improvisational thrill. Brooklyn psych act Levitation Room will open the night, making it one trippy, unforgettable evening.

Don’t miss this psychedelic reunion—tickets are on sale now via Live Nation and Bandsintown. Get ready to channel your third eye and dance ‘til the sun fades under the glow of two generations of mystic rock.
