This spring, Toronto’s Theatre Passe Muraille invites audiences to traverse the cosmos with “The Little Prince: A Physical Theatre Adaptation,” a groundbreaking interpretation of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s cherished novella. Scheduled to run from April 2 to 19, 2025, this world premiere offers a multisensory experience that transcends traditional storytelling.

At the helm of this innovative production is Landon Krentz, a visionary Deaf artist renowned for his ability to bridge the Deaf and hearing communities through the arts. Krentz’s adaptation employs a rich tapestry of physical theatre techniques, including Visual Vernacular (VV), American Sign Language (ASL), vertical dance, and immersive projection design, crafting a narrative that speaks directly to the heart without uttering a single spoken word.

Krentz’s previous collaborations with esteemed companies such as Soulpepper, Inside Out Theatre, and Ghost River Theatre have consistently showcased his commitment to exploring the depths of visual language and the nuances of human connection. In this adaptation, audiences will accompany the Little Prince on an interstellar odyssey, encountering whimsical characters and uncovering profound insights into love, belonging, and the essence of the human spirit.

The creative ensemble supporting this production is equally impressive. Directed and dramaturged by Suchiththa Wickremesooriya, with vertical dance choreography by Julia Taffe and Aeriosa Dance Society, the team also includes projection designer Alessio Convito, sound designer Ashley Naomi Skye, and costume/set designer Adriana Bogaard. The cast features talents such as Ebony R. Gooden, Ali Saeedi, Ralista Rodriguez, and Hayley Hudson, each bringing their unique artistry to this reimagined classic.
