Vacation Spots That Are The Best In The Summertime

Consider Sweden when you're thinking of your next vacation spot.

Consider Sweden when you’re thinking of your next vacation spot.

We’re always in search of something fun and fresh to do in the summer months because we don’t always want to follow the crowd when it comes to our vacations. Don’t get us wrong, we love the beach just as much as everyone else, but sometimes it’s great to beat the heat and explore a place we wouldn’t typically go. These are a few of our choices that you may sometimes be associated with “frostier” or “wetter” weather, but are downright glorious when the summer hits.

Toronto

You may call us a little biased, but one advantage Toronto has is that the weather is often unbelievably lovely in the summer. Surrounded by no shortage of beautiful parks, museums and cultural experiences, there’s no lack of things to do and you can even find yourself on one of their many beaches. Use it as a chance to go out and see the breathtaking power of Niagara Falls or sit and have a nice, cold beverage in one of Toronto’s many Victorian patios. If you go for the latter, be sure to check out Now Toronto’s list of the best places to drink in the city.

London

London (and the rest of England, for that matter) is superb for a summer vacation. The United Kingdom is notorious for its damp weather, but the summer months offer a reprieve from the rain and the cold. A little sunshine goes a long way and offers great opportunities for visitors to see the beautiful gardens or pieces of history. For example, there are the hanging signs of Lombard Street or any number of the spots on The Guardian’s list of London’s most unusual historic sites. It’s incredible how much there is to see and do when you can actually walk around the city without a rain jacket and a pair of wellies. British Airways’ flights to London page is loaded with additional info on what’s going on in the city, like upcoming summer music and film festivals in addition to notable museum exhibits.

Sweden

Countries and locales that can be bitterly cold and inhospitable during the winter can become downright paradise-like by the time summer comes around. You get all the benefits of lush trees and forests and delightfully agreeable temperatures without the sweltering heat and humidity associated with more tropical climates. Sweden is totally one of those countries. Midsummer is a special time for Scandinavia with loads of cultural festivals and feasts to be discovered. The Daily Mail reports that many of these festivities take place on some of the thousands of islands off the Swedish coast during mid-June in celebration of days when the country will see 24 hours of uninterrupted sunlight.

Australia

Winter may not be the first thing that comes to mind when someone says summer. That may change however, if you’re planning a trip Down Under. Summer is actually the perfect time to take a trip south of the equator. Because the seasons are reversed down there, you’ll actually be visiting the area during its fall and winter. According to The Huffington Post’s list of 5 reasons to visit Australia, even at its coldest in winter the worst you’re probably ever going to see in Sydney would be 10 degrees Celsius. That’s nice jacket weather for us. The continent can be unbearably hot in the summer months, so escape the heat in the Northern hemisphere and try the temperate “winter” climes of Australia for a vacation where it’s actually cool enough to step outdoors and see some of this amazing country.
