Get ready to deck the halls and crack up: the world premiere of The Unauthorized Hallmark(ish) Parody Musical lands in Toronto this holiday season, running November 20, 2025 – January 4, 2026 at The Royal Theatre (608 College St) in the heart of the city.
Directed by Tim Drucker (of Friends Parody Musical and Trixie & Katya LIVE fame) and choreographed by Brooke Engen (whose credits include Hairspray, Beetlejuice and Rock of Ages), this show is part love-letter and part holiday-movie roast. With book by Drucker and Bonnie Milligan (Tony Award winner for Kimberly Akimbo), music by Joel Waggoner, and lyrics shared among the trio, the production is a full-on riff on everything we quote, binge and joke about come December.
The Story (You Know, With a Moose)
Our heroine, Holly—a high-powered city executive—finds herself back in her quirky hometown to help her mom run the family business. She reconnects with her old flame Mark, now the local sheriff, and stumbles onto a cookie-contest conspiracy involving… yes, a moose. Between corporate mergers, small-town romance, and holiday chaos, Holly has to ask: Love or career? While wearing a Santa hat. Because it’s Christmas.
Tracks like “Love or Career” and “It Feels Like Christmas Because It Is Literally Christmas” promise to carry the show’s pop-musical backbone. Waggoner puts it bluntly: “I dare you to come multiple times…and sing along!”
Why this show matters
Toronto becomes the host city for the world premiere of a festive musical parody built for the season. The production team behind it already has a strong track record locally, and the show is being touted as “Toronto’s must-see event of the season” by industry sources. Whether you’re a holiday-movie fan, a musical theatre devotee or just in it for the moose, this is your kind of spectacle.
