Beloved Canadian troubadour Ron Sexsmith returns to Toronto this fall with new songs that cut to the bone. His seventeenth studio album, Hangover Terrace (out August 29), trades the gentle optimism of his recent work for something more weathered and reflective — the sound of a songwriter coming to terms with the passage of time.

Recorded at London’s Eastcote Studios with longtime collaborator Martin Terefe, Hangover Terrace was born out of an unplanned stay in the UK following Sexsmith’s At Sixty tour. What emerged is a raw and deeply human collection, filled with the kind of quiet honesty that has long made him one of Canada’s most cherished voices. “This record speaks to the hangover I feel from the last few years of pandemic and life knocking us around,” he shares.

The album features standout tracks like “Camelot Towers,” “Angel on My Shoulder,” and “Cigarette & Cocktail,” and includes contributions from Ed Harcourt, Robbie McIntosh, and Chris Kimsey — plus a moving appearance from 15-year-old Stratford songwriter Nora Joy Stephens, who also opens Sexsmith’s Toronto show.

After 17 albums and covers by artists from k.d. lang to Rod Stewart, Sexsmith remains a master of finding grace in everyday ache — always honest, always human.
