Montreal was the place to be this past weekend as the city played host to the Osheaga Music and Arts Festival from August 2-4. Held at the picturesque Parc Jean-Drapeau, the festival once again cemented its reputation as one of North America’s premier music events. This year’s edition was nothing short of spectacular, featuring an eclectic mix of artists, electrifying performances, and an unforgettable atmosphere that had festival-goers dancing and singing along from day one to the final encore.
With the iconic Green Day, fans were treated to a nostalgic set filled with classics like “Basket Case” and “American Idiot,” bringing a wave of punk rock energy that had everyone on their feet. The day also featured a mesmerizing performance by RAYE, who braved a thunderstorm that momentarily paused her set but couldn’t dampen the spirits of her fans.
We saw an incredible lineup with pop sensation Chappell Roan taking the Bell River Stage by storm. Donning a pink rhinestoned corset and fairy wings, she captivated the audience with hits from her debut album, “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.” The day also featured a powerhouse performance by Reneé Rapp, who mixed punk dance tunes with soulful ballads, proving she’s a vocal force to be reckoned with.
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly Martin Garrix, whose electrifying set transformed the festival grounds into a massive dance party. His beats kept the crowd moving well into the night, providing a perfect transition from the rock and pop performances earlier in the day.
A Stellar Finale
Sunday wrapped up the festival on a high note with performances by SZA and Justice. SZA’s soulful voice and emotive lyrics captivated the audience, while Justice’s electronic beats and visual effects turned the stage into a spectacular light show. Kevin Abstract also delivered a memorable set, even bringing a lucky fan on stage, adding a personal touch to the festival’s closing day.
More Than Just Music
Beyond the music, Osheaga 2024 offered a full festival experience with diverse food options, interactive art installations, and plenty of activities. The lines for food and water were long, but the variety of offerings, from traditional festival fare to unique treats like General Tao poutine, made the wait worthwhile.
