Cavalia is back! Electrifying, charismatic, gentle and highly sexy, this production keeps the audience in awestruck from the moment you enter the tent. Actually, from the time you drive up. The tent itself is a spectacle to see and I marvel at how they are able to set it up in such a short amount of time (15 days).
Everything about the production feels fairytale-like, from the exquisite costumes, exotic soundtrack and high-tech visual effects on the IMAX size screens creating various backdrops from deserts and rolling hills to misty forests. Musicians and singers play original music setting the mood for each performance. “Odysseo” truly delivers on every promise.
The cast is impressive not only in numbers but in abilities. 70 horses including magnificent stallions showcase their training, especially when dozens of them circle in choreographed groups on stage, often with no human in sight and never with the use of whips. Add to this a cast of 45 of the fittest; it looked like a Mr/Ms Fitness competition, acrobats and riders who perform improbable stunts that rival any modern-day circus show. At one point an 18 ton merry-go-round is lowered from the sky where aerialists frolic freely. In another scene, women wrapped in long white silk scarves soar over a pack of majestic white horses; a stunning visual display.
Beyond the stunt-riding, gymnastics and super human feats of acrobatics, the most delightful moments are those of the four-legged talent; simply stunning animals, well groomed and behaved and meticulous in their movements. The classic equestrian dressage and even dancing was made even more impressive by fact that the trainers/riders used nothing more than gentle words and pats to direct their co-stars.
And just when you think there couldn’t possibly be anything more the cast could do to amaze you, the ring fills with 300,000 liters of waters and the horses seem to have a field day with the newly created lake.
In fact, the only thing that I can’t believe, the one point that makes me question it all, is how they’re able to do this night after night and never cease to amaze their audiences.
Cavalia has extended its run in Toronto until May 4th. But that only means demand is high, don’t miss out, get your tickets today at http://www.cavalia.net/en
