As part of DesignTO and in connection with IDS Toronto, a striking new experiential installation is inviting Torontonians to step inside a world where light, space, and food become one unified, sensory-driven journey.

Created in collaboration between Mason Studio, VYVYD Lighting, and celebrated chef Eva Chin, this multi-layered project blends immersive design with culinary storytelling — offering both a ticketed dining experience and a free public installation at The Light Room.

🌟 A Two-Night Immersive Dining Experience (19+ | Ticketed)

At the heart of the project is a two-evening, ticketed immersive dining experience that transforms a meal into a choreographed, multi-sensory performance.

Guests will be seated communally at assigned tables and guided through a multi-course cold seafood tasting menu rooted in contemporary Chinese culinary traditions. The experience includes:

  • Live raw seafood preparations
  • Shellfish inspired by Chaoshan and Ningbo cuisine
  • A roe and sea urchin course
  • A warming finale of roasted rice, root vegetables, and spice

What makes this experience truly unique is how lighting evolves throughout the evening, shifting in tone and intensity to mirror each stage of the meal — turning the act of dining into a fully immersive, emotional journey.

🎟 Tickets are available for purchase HERE.
(This dining experience is ticketed and separate from the public installation.)

💡 Public Installation: Open House (Free Admission)

For those who want to experience the design component on its own, the Light Room installation will be open to the public:

📅 January 29–31
🕛 12 PM – 5 PM
🎟 Free admission | All ages welcome

This open house allows visitors to explore the spatial and lighting design in a gallery-style setting — offering a glimpse into how light, architecture, and atmosphere shape emotional experience.

🤝 The Creative Forces Behind the Experience

Mason Studio is a globally minded design firm known for shaping hospitality, wellness, and cultural spaces through strategic, human-centred design.

VYVYD Lighting, a Toronto-based architectural lighting studio, specializes in emotion-driven lighting environments that transform space and deepen narrative impact.

Chef Eva Chin, one of Canada’s most influential culinary voices, brings her refined, culturally rooted approach to the table. Trained in Michelin-starred kitchens and co-founder of Yan Dining Room, Chin is known for blending heritage, sustainability, and contemporary technique into expressive, story-driven cuisine.

Yan Dining Room, opened in 2024, is an intimate neo-Chinese fine dining concept that reimagines Chinese cuisine through seasonal, multi-course tasting menus focused on memory, identity, and modern storytelling.

✨ Where Design Becomes Experience

More than an installation — and more than a meal — this project is a meditation on how light, space, and taste shape human connection. It’s exactly the kind of boundary-pushing, multidisciplinary experience that makes Toronto’s design and culture scene so exciting right now.

Whether you’re booking a seat at the table or simply exploring the Light Room during the public open house, this is one of IDS and DesignTO’s most intriguing and immersive offerings of the season.
