The Kensington Market Jazz Festival (KMJF) is back for its eighth edition, featuring hundreds of Toronto’s jazz musicians in intimate venues across one of the city’s most vibrant neighbourhoods. The festival, founded and organized by singer-songwriter and philanthropist Molly Johnson O.C., will run from Friday, September 29 to Sunday, October 1, 2023.

KMJF showcases the diversity and talent of the Toronto jazz scene, from established artists to emerging voices. The festival’s motto this year is “Better, Not Bigger”, reflecting its aim to create a unique sense of connection between the musicians and the audience. The festival also honours the history and culture of Kensington Market, a heritage district that has been home to many immigrants and artists over the years.

KMJF is an artist-driven, volunteer-fuelled festival that relies on the support of the community and sponsors. The festival has received financial support from the City of Toronto and the Ontario Arts Council, as well as Slaight Music and other private donors. KMJF also partners with local organizations and businesses to promote music education and social justice. For example, KMJF Kids Music was launched in 2018 in partnership with Tom’s Place, Yamaha Canada Music Ltd., Discovery Through The Arts, Youth Arcade Studio, and St. Stephen’s Community Centre, to provide musical instruments and lessons to children in the market.

The Kensington Market Jazz Festival is a must-see event for jazz lovers and music enthusiasts alike. The festival offers a rare opportunity to experience the best of Toronto’s jazz scene in a lively and historic neighbourhood.
