You’re unlikely to find empty streets in New York City unless you get up at the crack of dawn, and even then, you might not be so lucky. But in this city, the crowds are part of the whole experience.
You just received the email with your trip confirmation, and you can barely sit still you are so excited. This summer, you will finally get the chance to spend a little time in New York City.
The only slight damper on your upcoming vacation is that it’s short — only 48 hours — and you know you won’t even come close to experiencing all that NYC has to offer. But don’t fret, 48 hours gives you plenty of time to see and experience some of the most popular sites. So, with that in mind, consider these four activities for your whirlwind visit to NYC:
Take Bike Ride in Central Park
A great way to start off your trip is with a bike ride through Central Park. If you are an early bird and want to avoid the crowds, rent a bike from Central Park Bike Tours as early as 6 a.m. and explore the park at your leisure. Or, you can wait until 9 a.m. to join a two-hour ride that is sponsored by the bike-rental company. The park features a variety of paths that are 1.7 to just over 6 miles in length, and you can stop as often as you like to snap photos of the Alice in Wonderland Sculpture, the Bow Bridge and the many other sights.
Visit the National September 11 Memorial and Museum
This somber and poignant memorial and museum honors those who died during the terrorist attacks in 1993 and 2001. The 9/11 Memorial features two huge pools that are within the footprints of the Twin Towers, and they are surrounded by bronze parapets that are engraved with the names of the almost 3,000 people who died during the attacks. The memorial is free to the public and open daily. But, if you want to go inside the 9/11 Memorial Museum, you should visit its website to get tickets and hours ahead of time.
See a Broadway Play
For fans of live theater, there is a plethora of amazing shows to see. From classic Broadway plays like Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera to more modern plays like The Book of Mormon and Wicked, you have a wide variety to choose from based on your group’s tastes. To help narrow down your selection and to purchase tickets, check out the Telecharge website before your trip, so you can spend more time sightseeing and less time standing in line.
Stroll Across the Brooklyn Bridge
Known as the most impressive of the bridges that span the East River, the Brooklyn Bridge has become a well-known symbol of New York City. You can walk for free across a special pedestrian walkway and get a fantastic view of the city and plenty of shots of the skyline. On the Manhattan end, you can snap some photos of the city’s Supreme Court building. And, on the Brooklyn side, you can relax after your stroll at one of the nearby parks and piers.
