Flux Pavilion. Dirty & Filthy & Grimy & Dub Step.

Though people have started to complain about the weather, there’s no need to hibernate yet. And looking at some of the music acts touching down in Toronto over the next few weeks, there is definitely enough energy to heat you up.

Joshua Steele, known professionally as Flux Pavilion, is an English dubstep producer and DJ who’s been on the scene since 2008. Yes, dubstep, something you don’t get often at mainstream venues in Toronto. Flux is coming to the Kool Haus on October 4th for his Freeway Tour. He’s one of the biggest DJ’s in the UK and has been getting nods on this side of the Atlantic as well. He’s developed a really interesting sound melding 8-bit and early rave and hip-hop.

If dubstep is too hard hitting and electric for you, there’s another tone that night. A pastiche of post-rock, chamber-pop and contemporary classical composition, San Fermin is the work of Brooklyn composer and songwriter Ellis Ludwig-Leone. Ludwig-Leone composed all of the album’s arrangements and lyrics in full prior to collaborating and recording, noting that “writing for a large group of unknown musicians infused the writing process with a kind of operatic scope.” The 8 piece, chamber pop orchestra being compared to Sufjan Stevens and Dirty Projectors hits the Drake on October 4th.

The midway point sees UK’s Peace coming to Mod Club & Danforth Music Hall for two dates, October 14th and 15th respectively, bringing their riff-based pop and crooning ballads across the pond w/ Two Door Cinema Club. Adding to the successful repertoire of their 2012 EP, Delicious, Peace offer up an LP produced by Jim Abiss (of Adele and Arctic Monkeys fame) consisting of a meticulously crafted collection of riff-based pop and heart-wrenching ballads that stands in a spectacular lineage of British greats. Their debut LP, In Love, is coming October 1 on Sony and the band was named one of BBC’s Artists of 2013 and NME’s Best New Live Band (and nabbed the NME cover in April).
