The immersive experience draws you into the story, allowing you to be a witness, a voyeur into the lives of those who have entered the Victorian house on this hallowed night, the Eve of St. George. You are free to roam and follow any of the guests to watch their story unfold.

TranscenDance Project’s “Eve of St. George” is a mesmerizing spectacle that plunges you into the heart of darkness. This immersive dance theater experience, masterfully choreographed by Julia Cratchley, is a seductive journey into the world of Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

Upon arrival, audience members are given masks and set free to roam the rooms and corridors of Toronto’s Great Hall. The experience is akin to being an anonymous voyeur, with each audience member constructing their own unique narrative experience. The atmosphere is brooding, the narrative fractured, conveyed through dance and movement rather than dialogue.

The characters are easily recognizable to those familiar with Stoker’s novel. Van Helsing, Jonathan Harker, Lucy Westenra, Mina Harker, Renfield, and Count Dracula himself are some of the characters you may encounter throughout the evening. The dancer in the role of Dracula nails the menacing yet seductive quality of the role.

The choreography is exquisite, with a dark yet sensual quality that fits the story perfectly. The dances have a sense of flow and narrative, with the characters conveying purpose and intent. The final confrontation scene is intensely physical and exciting to watch.

The vampire brides and vampire children are particularly impressive, interacting with the audience in ways that are at once charming and deeply unsettling. Their performances are a testament to the strong character work in the show.

“Eve of St. George is a beautifully executed, immersive theatrical experience that captures the essence of its source material and brings the story to life in an exciting, new way. It’s a hauntingly beautiful journey into the world of Dracula, filled with dark allure and mysterious charm. This is a show that will leave you spellbound.
