SUMMARY:White Lies at Mod Club
DESCRIPTION:Hope you are well. Just wanted to send a reminder that White Lies are about to embark on a North American tour and will make a stop in Toronto at Mod Club on May 4.\n\n\nFresh into the new year and just ahead of the release of their new album Five (out 2/1 on [PIAS] Recordings)\, White Lies are pleased to share new track Tokyo along with its accompanying video. Watch it HERE.\n\nDirected by long-time visual collaborator David Pablos\, it was shot back-to-back with the band’s previously- released “Believe It” video in Tijuana\, Mexico at the tail-end of last year. The triumphant synth-laden pop of Tokyo encapsulates the trio’s unerring knack of penning a big tune and is a brilliant precursor to Five.

SUMMARY:
DESCRIPTION:Seminal post-hardcore band La Dispute is coming through Opera House on April 16 with tickets available via the Opera House site. \nIt’s in support of their album Panorama\, their first release w/ Epitaph Records and fourth overall release. Their most-personal project to date that finds them combining elements of jazz\, rock\, slow core\, noise\, hardcore among others on the 10 track label debut. Opening for them will be Gouge Away and Slow Mass. Live show is incredibly fun\, entertaining\, and full of high energy – they pride themselves in connecting with their fans. \n\nPanorama was produced by the band in tandem with return producer Will Yip (Quicksand\, Braid\, Code Orange\, Nothing\, Title Fight) Panorama combines jazz\, rock\, slowcore\, noise\, hardcore among other influences over the span of 10 tracks. Most of what happens on the album takes place on the route singer Jordan Dreyer and his partner would drive from their home in the East Hills neighborhood of Grand Rapids to the city of Lowell\, where she grew up. Everywhere along the drive are places where\, in varying degrees of recency\, people have died: a pond where a man drowned walking home in the winter\, multiple places where people crashed driving drunk or were killed in car accidents\, and one place where years prior a city worker found a Jane Doe decomposed. Panorama is intended to be a wide angled shot of that drive\, with the stories of those tragedies becoming focal points but filtered through the sieve of the couple’s life together.\n\nTheir national spring tour in support of the album kicks off April 13th with a sold out hometown Grand Rapids show making stops at New York\, DC\, Chicago\, Los Angeles and Toronto and Vancouver as their only Canadian stops.\nLISTEN TO “RHODONITE AND GRIEF:\n \n“ROSE QUARTZ / FULTON STREET 1”:\n \n“FOOTSTEPS AT THE POND”:\n \nPHOTO CREDIT:  Pooneh Ghana

SUMMARY:All-Female Garage Outfit The Coathangers
DESCRIPTION:All-female garage outfit The Coathangers are coming to The Horseshoe Tavern April 13 with tickets available through the Horseshoe website.\n\nTheir live shows are exciting and full of radiating infectious energy\, they’ve been together for over a decade and have toured/played with The Black Lips\, Refused\, the Thermals\, etc. They’re out supporting their new album The Devil You Know. One of their most purposeful and unapologetic projects to date\, first one written as a true unit that melds their respective takes on playful house party anthems\, heart worn ballads\, and vitriolic punk (music to check below).\n\nJust released a lo-fi stylized video for “Step Back” off the new album which the ladies describe as a “reflection of the pain and helplessness that comes with loving someone who is lost in the fog of addiction. We have all been touched by the effects of drug and alcohol issues\, which often leave us feeling bewildered. Lurking in the shadows all around us\, addiction is the monster that has taken too many people we love away from us. This song is a plea to get them back.”\nWatch “Step Back” video: https://youtu.be/OJFJ4bi50y8 \nWatch “F The NRA” + read the essay: https://www.talkhouse.com/the-coathangers-say-f-the-nra/ \nWatch “Bimbo” : https://youtu.be/GbkTaALHRNg\n\nPHOTO CREDIT: Matt Odom

SUMMARY:Giraffage Takes on Velvet Underground
DESCRIPTION:His releases get millions of plays and his debut album Too Real is coming out 10/20.\n\nThis is big since he went from being a blog favorite to now playing some of the biggest music festivals across the world. The album features Japanese Breakfast\, Body Language’s Angelica Bess + more\, it’s a very intimate and personal project (made it while fighting depression. He didn’t step outside of his home for two years) and chronicles his personal journey of self healing\, with each song representing a different period in his life. He builds beautiful atmospheres that bring to life a genuine experience. Check out his music below and let me know if you think you can help)\, let me know if you want to hear it. He actually flipped The-Dream’s ‘Love/Hate’ in its entirety and it blew him up. Last week he released his new song “Maybes” feat. Japanese Breakfast (music below).\n\nHe’s the son of Taiwanese immigrants who expected him to become a lawyer/doctor but instead followed his dream – making music\, which caused a cultural strain. He’s more artful than his peers at the EDM festivals he gets booked for and makes beautiful dreamy synth-pop and R&B melodies.\n\nListen to:\n\n“Maybes” feat. SUMMARY:Corbin vs Shlohmo at Mod Club
DESCRIPTION:Hey fans\, Corbin (fka Spooky Black) is bunking with Shlohmo at The Mod Club on September 25. JUST dropped his anticipated debut album Mourn yesterday. The album is produced entirely by Shlohmo and D33J from WEDIDIT and the music is inspired by the industrial genre\, Detroit techno\, dark electro\, 80’s new wave.\n\nHe’s about to embark on a 16 date co-headlining tour with labelmates Shlohmo and D33J who will be providing support as the tour opener. His live shows are captivating – many people are shocked when they hear him live as he has such a powerful voice.\nMOURN: https://corbin.lnk.to/mourn\n“the album is a clanking\, woozy collection of avant-garde beats and Corbin’s soulful howl of a voice. It’s great music of the coming chilliness of fall and/or any supernaturally emotional events that may befall your life: this is one to ruminate to.” – NOISEY \n  \n

SUMMARY:London Duo Tender Play Adelaide Hall
DESCRIPTION:London duo TENDER have announced their first N. American tour and are stopping off at the Adelaide Hall September 22. It comes on the heels of their debut album Modern Addiction\, out now on Partisan Records. They recently shared the self-directed video for their new single “Machine” here. \nModern Addiction\,’ listens like catharsis. From orgasm\, to break-up\, to silence\, the record breaths closure to a relationship that has intensified\, shattered\, and healed. It is young\, cold\, urban\, lonely\, and an intrinsically modern look at the irrepressible desire to maintain a love\, be it destined or doomed. James Cullen and Dan Cobb’s debut full length\, explores the phenomenon of comfort and compulsion that is addictionCobb’s soaring synths and progressive percussion are waxed and shined by the album’s sleek club mix\, and the juxtaposition with Cullen’s lyrics is heart-breaking.

SUMMARY:Electric Island Civic Holiday Edition
DESCRIPTION:Electric Island Civic Holiday edition will welcome the incredibly versatile and energetic Jackmaster on the mainstage. This Glasgow-native is notorious for hashing up the most surprising records – whether it be a forgotten disco track or bumping techno – Jackmaster can pull just about anything from his sleeve. Joining him will be another legend from across the pond – Irish-born Mano Le Tough. The Maeve label owner is a true sound wizard with an impeccable ear for melody\, deep emotive basslines\, and live instrumental breaks. After witnessing a Mano Le Tough set\, you’ll be left in awe. \nBulgarian live-act KiNK also joins the bill. Another name who is known to embrace experimentation\, KiNK expertly weaves listeners between house\, techno and broken beat to deliver a memorable performance for all. Taking festival-goers into nightfall will be Russian techno vixen Nina Kraviz. Nina’s success is unparalleled — from her successful label Trip (трип)\, to her mesmerizing performances behind the decks\, she is a force to be reckoned with! And let’s not forget our astounding locals — Jonathan Rosa and Toronto’s illustrious duo\, Nature of Music will each be on warm-up duty. \nThe second stage will see Swiss DJ-Producer Deetron. Deetron owes his expert mixing skills to his early days as a Hip-Hop DJ. Strongly influenced by the sound of Detroit\, ‘four-to-the-floor’ became his motto and today he’s best known for producing warm techno with the soul of Detroit. We look forward to his Electric Island debut! Joining Deetron will be the forbearer of the modern funk movement- Dâm-Funk! The American DJ-Producer affirms that funk is a way of life\, “a feeling of struggle and staying cool through it all.” Toronto house-hold names Greg Gow\, Addy and Jeremy Stott will have the honours of warming up festival-goers at the second stage. \nIt’s going to be another sizzling weekend in the city this Civic Holiday. \nTickets for the Civic Holiday edition of Electric Island may be purchased here.\nView the Electric Island Canada Day Photo Gallery Here\n[Photo Credit: Ded Agency] \nFor more information\, please visit www.electricisland.to
