DESCRIPTION:The Sony Centre For The Performing Arts is proud to present the return of SO BLUE\, choreographed and performed by Louise Lecavalier\, joined by Frédéric Tavernini after a highly acclaimed and sold-out run at the Fleck Dance Theatre last summer.\n\n\nPhysically\, Louise Lecavalier is an arresting composite of David Bowie and Tilda Swinton\, and in the world of contemporary dance\, she is as iconic as both. The Montréal native began her career at 18 with Le Groupe Nouvelle Aire\, where she met choreographer Édouard Lock. With Lecavalier as his main muse\, Lock created La La La Human Steps. Many of the troupe’s seminal works— including Human Sex\, New Demons and 2—were defined by her remarkable power and presence. Lecavalier also figured prominently in Lock’s collaborations with Frank Zappa and\, fittingly\, Bowie with whom she performed a duet at a benefit for the London Institute of Contemporary Art.\n\nSO BLUE\, first presented in Düsseldorf in late 2012\, marks her volcanic emergence as a choreographer.\n\nThe first 30-minutes of SO BLUE features Lecavalier in a perilous solo with a vibrant\, swirling soundtrack composed by Turkish-born Montrealer Mercan Dede. Joined by Frédéric Tavernini for the second half\, their raw\, shared energy reaches dizzying heights.\n\n\nLecavalier joined La La La Human Steps in 1981 to perform in Oranges becoming and remaining the face of the company until 1999. In 1985\, Lecavalier was the first Canadian artist to win a Bessie (Dance and Performance) Award in New York.  In 1999\, Lecavalier was the first recipient of the Jean A. Chalmers Award\, as well as the inaugural Prix de la danse in Montreal in 2011.\n\nIn March 2014 Lecavalier’s company\, Fou Glorieux\, was awarded the 29th Grand Prix du Conseil des arts de Montréal\, recognizing the achievement of Lecavalier as an ambassadress for Montreal’s artistic vitality\, as well as for her legendary contribution to contemporary dance.\n\nLecavalier was also awarded the highest distinction in the realm of performing arts in Canada as one of 2014’s winners of the Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards\, and was praised as “one of this country’s most admired and respected contemporary dancers\, who continues to dazzle the public and expand the boundaries of her art.”

Armed with a quick wit\, Sam tries to make it through the day-to-day grind with the bright and optimistic\, Suzanne at his side.\n\nWhen a letter from Joseph’s past arrives unexpectedly\, he is faced with the heartbreaking dilemma of leaving his family for his first and true love\, Chava\, who he thought perished in the Holocaust; or choosing to stay with his wife of 25 years\, their son\, and the life they have built together. DESCRIPTION:José González ‘s new record\, Vestiges & Claws is his first in seven years. Released on February 17th 2015\, it was produced by González in his home as well as Svenska Grammofonstudion\, both in Gothenburg\, Sweden. It consists of years’ worth of musical sketches that in other hands might naturally sprawl wildly in sound and style\, but on Vestiges & Claws González has created a collection of songs that cohere just about perfectly\, ensuring his position as one of the most important artists of his generation. \n“It was no doubt a conscious decision to work without a producer\,” said González. “I didn’t want this to be too polished\, or too ‘in your face.’ Most of all\, it’s fun to be in complete control of the artistic aspect. Also\, I was inspired by and picked up a lot of tricks from the producers I have worked with in the past. I like to use distortion and let things be a little over driven\, which gives things a warmer sound. Sometimes people complain that my music is too muddled\, but I really do not want a modern crisp sound. I’d much rather aim somewhere between Shuggie Otis and Simon & Garfunkel.” \nThe result is an album that is less purist\, less strict. One can find traces of inspired protest songs and eccentric folk rock on Vestiges & Claws: staccato grooves and rhythms\, frustration and optimism. It’s a collection that is simultaneously confident\, free and uncertain.
