DESCRIPTION:This hip hop/soul singer\, songwriter and actress born and raised in Warri\, Nigeria sings in both English and in Lgbo. Since 2003\, she has been working  closely with many hip hop artists such as DJ Farhot and Sean Paul. After much praise\, Nneka landed an opportunity to record her first album and EP titled The Uncomfortable Truth with music label Yo Mama’s Recording Company. From there\, her music career took off. \nHer first album Victim of Truth\,  released in 2005\, received rave reviews from media in the UK\, where the Sunday Times later compared it to The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. After the release\, she toured and performed at many festivals went on to create her send album  No Longer at Ease. Most of the songs on the album talk about the troubles of the Niger Delta and the corruption in her homeland. \nNneka’s career continues to thrive\, garnering the interest of key media such as the Late Show with David Letterman and touring with popular artists like Damian Marley and Nas. Her musical style tends to gain attention from hip hop/soul music world. She names hip hop as her main musical root and her main source of inspiration\, singing more than she raps. Her lyrics reflect much of her history and life in Nigeria as well as her time spent in Western Europe\, while stressing the issues of capitalism\, poverty and war.

Her musical style tends to gain attention from hip hop/soul music world. She names hip hop as her main musical root and her main source of inspiration\, singing more than she raps. Her lyrics reflect much of her history and life in Nigeria as well as her time spent in Western Europe\, while stressing the issues of capitalism\, poverty and war.

The Montréal native began her career at 18 with Le Groupe Nouvelle Aire\, where she met choreographer Édouard Lock. With Lecavalier as his main muse\, Lock created La La La Human Steps. Many of the troupe’s seminal works— including Human Sex\, New Demons and 2—were defined by her remarkable power and presence. Lecavalier also figured prominently in Lock’s collaborations with Frank Zappa and\, fittingly\, Bowie with whom she performed a duet at a benefit for the London Institute of Contemporary Art.\n\nSO BLUE\, first presented in Düsseldorf in late 2012\, marks her volcanic emergence as a choreographer.\n\nThe first 30-minutes of SO BLUE features Lecavalier in a perilous solo with a vibrant\, swirling soundtrack composed by Turkish-born Montrealer Mercan Dede. Joined by Frédéric Tavernini for the second half\, their raw\, shared energy reaches dizzying heights.\n\n\nLecavalier joined La La La Human Steps in 1981 to perform in Oranges becoming and remaining the face of the company until 1999. In 1985\, Lecavalier was the first Canadian artist to win a Bessie (Dance and Performance) Award in New York.  In 1999\, Lecavalier was the first recipient of the Jean A. TAPESTRY OPERA presents a recreation of the classic myth in the world premiere of M’DEA UNDONE. Written by Dora Award-winning playwright Marjorie Chan and brought to life by the lush orchestral and electronic soundscape of Scottish composer John Harris\, M’DEA UNDONE will receive its world premiere in Toronto for a limited engagement.\n \nM’dea’s struggle for survival and revenge begins when she accompanies her lover Jason to a new life in the west. Having betrayed her village to help the military commander\, M’dea rages when he distances himself from his family to advance his political aspirations and take a new wife. Thus begins M’dea’s retribution and rapid spiral towards the opera’s searing and tragic finale. \n \nThe site of this production makes it unique. Both Tapestry Opera and Evergreen Brickworks fuse tradition and innovation. Evergreen Brickworks is a repurposed brick factory transformed into a modern community environmental centre; Tapestry Opera advances an artistic tradition to create wholly original\, contemporary works. In accordance with the Brickworks’ mandate\, M’DEA UNDONE will be produced sustainably\, using a minimal set made from reusable materials that showcases the Brickworks’ natural-industrial setting. DESCRIPTION:The Carassauga Festival\, beginning on May 22nd\, will be providing non-stop entertainment\, food and fun for three days straight\, celebrating Canada’s multicultural heritage with the country’s largest festival of its kind. \n\n\n“The Carassauga Festival is all about new experiences – be it new cuisine\, music\, dancing or tons of other experiences\, there is a ton of things to do and see at this year’s festival\,” said Linda Siutra\, Executive Director of Carassauga. \n\n\nThe highlight of the festival is the 28 pavilions\, each with a different country’s theme. Visitors will be able to go from one pavilion to the next interacting with cultural entertainers\, and experiencing diverse foods while being entertained at this family friendly event. One Carassauga passport gives attendees admittance into each of the pavilions across the city of Mississauga. \n\n\nTake a look at what each pavilion will be featuring at this year’s festival: \n\n\nBrazil – Stroll along the Pan-American Promenade comprised of the famous side-walks of Copacabana\, Sao Paulo and Curitiba. Don’t forget to enter for a chance to win two tickets to Brazil while visiting. \n\n\nCanada- Engage in the historical perspective of five eras; featuring past and present. See how much you know about your Canadian heritage with Canadian trivia and while you’re there\, sign a maple leaf on the guest banner before you go. \n\n\nMacedonia – Learn how to dance the Macedonian dance\, ‘Oro’\, while the kids learn how to write their names in Kirilca\, the Macedonian alphabet. \n\n\nCroatia -Watch as passerby’s break into song with Croation Klapa\, (meaning group of friends)\, music traditionally performed accappella. Klapa\, spontaneous in nature\, makes it hard not to join in withCroation folklore dancing. \n\n\nCaribbean – Enjoy Jamaica’s national dish of Ackee & Saltfish. It can be eaten any time of the day or week. Afterwards sip on a cold Red Stripe beer\, which is brewed in Jamaica by Desnoes & Geddes and was first produced in 1938. \n\n\nHawaii – Come out and Luau at the “Aloha Cafe”. Try the world famous succulent pork ono ono\, chicken hapa and a display of delicious and irresistible island desserts. Whether it is the fandango\, corridinho\, vira or chamarita\, the music and costumes embody and demonstrate the soul and spirit of the Portuguese people. Be sure to bring your dancing shoes. \n\n\nVietnam – Highlights of the Vietnam pavilion will be the Vietnamese Long Dress\, (Áo Dài)\, fashion show\, Vietnam conical hats and easy to love spring rolls. \n\n\nAfrica – View the Nelson Mandela exhibit\, and experience a Royal Procession by King and Queen of Africa.
