SUMMARY:Lakes of Canada at TWiMFest
DESCRIPTION:Lakes of Canada will perform songs from their second album Transgressions\, inspired by Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel The Handmaid’s Tale.\n\nMontreal-based Lakes of Canada was founded in 2010 by Jake Smith (lead vocals\, rhythm guitar\, percussion) and Conor O’Neil (drums\, vocals) as a “Simon & Garfunkel”-esque folk-pop duo performing Smith’s songs at various cafés and bars around town. The past four years have seen Lakes experience a dramatic shift both in style and membership: with a heavier\, indie-rock sound infused with gospel/soul influences\, Lakes have added the likes of lead guitarist Tim Dobby\, Sarah Morasse on keyboards\, vocals\, flute and harp\, and\, former Honheehonehee front-man Greg Halpin (guitar\, bass\, vocals\, percussion). Lakes of Canada maintains their commitment to vocal harmony (around which the band was created)\, but with a rich instrumental complexity befitting a classically-trained group of musicians.\n\n“The songs stand on their own and some\, like the final title track\, deserve a permanent place in the Canadian songbook.” – CBC Music

DESCRIPTION:The iconic Twyla Tharp is celebrating the 50th anniversary of her 1965 choreographic debut of Tank Dive with an American tour that includes one special stop in Toronto at the Sony Centre For The Performing Arts.  It has been over two decades since Twyla Tharp Dance last performed in Toronto.\n\nWith 12 new Tharp dancers\, the choreographer will premiere a double bill of new works featuring the music of J.S. Bach\, Henry Butler\, Steven Bernstein\, and John Zorn’s vibrant introductory FANFARE. The first new dance\, PRELUDES AND FUGUES\, set to J.S. Bach’s “Well-Tempered Clavier\,” radiates with Tharp’s generous spirit and humanity. The wild and raucous humour that Tharp finds in the jazz of Henry Butler and Steve Bernstein runs rampant through YOWZIE\, the second new dance.\n\nAn artist who has crossed over all dance styles and broken boundaries in the form\, Twyla Tharp’s signature style is an eclectic integration of classical discipline and vocabulary with avant-garde rebellion.  She has choreographed more than 160 works for film\, Broadway\, Television\, even the skating rink\, and 129 dances for such companies as American Ballet Theatre\, Joffrey Ballet\, New York City Ballet\, The Boston Ballet\, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago\, The Martha Graham Dance Company\, Miami City Ballet\, Pacific Northwest Ballet\, Atlanta Ballet and Canada’s own Royal Winnipeg Ballet. Deuce Coupe\, her ballet for The Joffrey set to the music of The Beach Boys\, is widely-considered the first successful cross-over ballet and is a staple in the company’s repertoire.\n\nIn 1976 Twyla Tharp choreographed Push Comes to Shove for Mikhail Baryshnikov\, with whom she went on to share a long-time artistic partnership. In 1981 Tharp commissioned David Byrne to compose the music for her first Broadway production\, The Catherine Wheel. In 2003 Tharp won the Best Choreography Tony Award for Movin’ Out\, which she set to the songs of Billy Joel. Tharp’s Hollywood hits include Hair\, Amadeus\, and Ragtime with director Milos Forman.\n\nFor 50 years Twyla Tharp’s singular imagination has been changing and shaping the American dance and entertainment canons. Today\, Ms. Tharp continues to create.\n

SUMMARY:Kill The Noise is coming to Hoxton
DESCRIPTION:In electronic world he's OWSLA's biggest selling artist besides Skrillex. He's the best punk rock minded thinking man in that scene and is very different than the usual suspect. This album has a fair amount of thrashy weird punk\, metal and other abstractions\, refreshing to the same old stuff in EDM. His videos have twice won MTV Clubland Video Of The Year over the biggest in the game.\n\nIn the last year he was on Skrillex's album\, made a song for the new Ninja Turtles movie with Juicy J\, Wiz Khalifa & Ty Dolla $ign\, animated video for "Far Away" (with vocals from a kids choir) premiered via Adult Swim on TV to millions of viewers. This album already has 2 video game syncs for MAJOR sports games this Fall (NBA Live 2K16 was just announced)\, has an official remix for Major Lazer's "Lean On" and he's headlining OWSLA stage at HARD Day Of The Dead this October.\n\nIt's a big year for him\, can you preview or cover the show?\n\nHere's his latest song with AWOLNATION:\nhttps://soundcloud.com/killthenoise/01-kill-it-4-the-kids-feat-rock-city-awol-nation

SUMMARY:WHAT HAPPENED TO THE SEEKER
DESCRIPTION:Seekers were the youth of the 60s who went out into the world seeking spiritual fulfillment. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE SEEKER/INTIMACY WITH A THOUSAND THINGS chronicles a middle-class\, middle-aged woman’s attempt to recapture the sense of well-being that comes from being a child of Seekers. Challenging traditional storytelling conventions\, WHAT HAPPENED TO THE SEEKER presents its narrative as a performance triptych with an Exhibit\, a Video\, and a Live Performance. \nBorn in 1965; the era of hippies\, free love\, and women’s rights\, the Exhibit captures the joy\, bewilderment and confusion of the Seeker’s (Nadia Ross) first fifty years. It attempts to lay out the many ways she has tried to adapt to a rapidly changing world and find her rightful place on earth. \nIn the Video\, the Seeker travels to the infamous Hippie Trail in India to retrace the steps of the original Seekers\, but in reverse order so she can ascend to the original psychic starting point. \nThe Live Performance happens in the here and now as the Seeker internalizes all the information contained in the exhibit and video\, discusses the benefits and bonuses of being nothing in this world\, and acknowledges both the failures and successes of her search for inner peace. \nIn January of last year\, The Theatre Centre sent Nadia Ross to India as part of its inaugural Tracy Wright Global Archive project\, which sends artists abroad to investigate burning personal and social questions. Nadia’s investigation in India and the resulting work in WHAT HAPPENED TO THE SEEKER has since been deeply experienced and overwhelmingly received by audiences in Austria\, Germany\, Norway\, Montreal (Festival TransAmeriques) and Ottawa (Magnetic North Theatre Festival). \nCreator Nadia Ross\, Founder and Artistic Director of STO Union\, spent 1994-2002 in Toronto winning awards and collaborating with other revolutionary artists such as Daniel MacIvor\, Daniel Brooks\, Diane Cave\, Jacob Wren and Paulette Phillips. The company now shares its time between Ottawa\, ON and Wakefield\, QC under the creative team of Nadia Ross\, Sarah Conn\, George Acheson and Rob Scott; continues to win awards and accolades\, and has toured their innovative productions across four continents. \nThe Theatre Centre\, 1115 Queen Street West\nThree Performances Only!\nOctober 1-3\, 2015 @ 8pm\nOpening Night: Thursday\, October 1\, 2015 @ 8pm\nAll Tickets are $30 plus service charges (Student/Senior/Arts Worker $22)\nand can be purchased online at Tickets.TheatreCentre.org\,\nby calling 416.538.0988 or in person at the box office

So get ready to express your inner GENIUS. \nJoin us as Giorgio Moroder turns the St-Jean-Baptiste church into a psych disco palace; British industrial metal legends\, Godflesh\, play their first ever Montreal show; 80’s punks Babes in Toylandreunite after 15 years; the one and only R&B legend Barbara Lynnwill perform in Montreal for the first time with Lil Buck Sinegal as part of a Ponderosa Stomp Revue; indie rock stalwarts Built to Spill return supporting their 8th full length release\, Untethered Moon; and dancehall queen Macka Diamond brings mega next level late night dance floor arousal with rappers Lady andJunglepussy. \nWhat else?…the return of Cannibal Ox and a performance by local pop sweetheart Coeur de Pirate\, who will debut at the festival her new album\, set for release this fall. Constellation Record’sOught will likewise return with a new album; Arcade Fire heart throb Will Butler will play his first show in Montreal after his two recent sold out performances this spring; and the otherwordly Stars of the Lid will give us a North Americanexclusive double performance at our favorite venue\, The Ukrainian Federation! \nVisit www.popmontreal.com or: \nDOWNLOAD THE POP MONTREAL APP ON YOUR IPHONE\nDOWNLOAD THE POP MONTREAL APP ON YOUR ANDROID
