DESCRIPTION:Ephwurd have been on fire in 2015 after making their mysterious debut as a duo in May.  It wasn’t long before the masterminds behind this new project were revealed – dubstep/electro legend\, Datsik and his tour manager\, Bais Haus.  Their first release was a remix of Major Lazer’s hit\, “Lean On” and then only a few months later they released their biggest original: a collaboration with Jauz on “Rock The Party”.  “Rock The Party” has been an absolutely massive hit for Jauz and Ephwurd and has reached nearly 6 million total plays on SoundCloud and YouTube. Ephwurd’s follow up\, “Duckface” was one of autumn’s biggest hits and lead into their debut performance on the mainstage of Insomniac’s Escape: Psycho Circus Halloween festival in October. In December they made their Los Angeles debut at Exchange to a sold out audience and will be touring this summer with stops at EDC New York\, Shamblaha\, Global Dance Festival and Audio on the Bay.

This second album deals with the realities of re concilin g oneself after the culture shock of immigrating\, but is also an new electronic project that utilizes its live shows to experiment with sounds in different ways\, which typically ends up in pretty fun dance parties. \nTheir sound is a blend of various influences of electronic and pop music\, touching upon themes of self discovery through immigration and adapting to new environments. DESCRIPTION:World Stage 2016 continues with the Canadian premiere of Looking for Paul: Inez van Dam vs. the Buttplug Gnome\, a big\, messy avant-garde performance that questions the role of public art. Four performances only will be presented April 27-30 at the Harbourfront Centre Theatre in this genre-colliding work.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInez van Dam lives and works in Rotterdam opposite the so-called “Buttplug Gnome\,” a controversial sculpture by contemporary American artist Paul McCarthy. Her anger and aversion for this publicly funded art circuitously leads her to the Dutch-Flemish actors’ group Wunderbaum. They invite Van Dam to travel with them to Los Angeles to help her confront McCarthy and to create a new theatre piece documenting her journey and the artistic process. Factory presents A LINE IN THE SAND\, written by Guillermo Verdecchia\, Marcus Youssef\, directed by Nigel Shawn Williams\, and starring John Cleland\, Danny Ghantous\, and Morgan David Jones. \n\n\n“Naked is the paring down of artifice to expose the natural and beautiful content of the play.” \n– Nigel Shawn Williams\n\n\nNigel Shawn Williams directs the gripping story of an unlikely friendship between a troubled Canadian soldier and a 16-year-old Palestinian boy who meet in the scorched Qatari desert during Operation Desert Shield. Their secret and tenuous friendship comes to an abrupt end with the torture and murder of the teenager inside the Canadian base; an act to which his friend the soldier was a witness\, if not a willing participant. \n \nTwenty years ago\, A LINE IN THE SAND ripped the benevolent mask off western peacekeeping operations and challenged Canada’s long treasured mythology that it is a nation of quiet diplomats. With the current discussions to end Canadian air strikes against ISIS in Iraq\, A LINE IN THE SAND continues to challenge Canada’s participation in war and the many brutal acts committed in its name.\n \nA LINE IN THE SAND was created in 1995 for the New Play Centre (now Playwrights Centre in Vancouver)\, and was revised and produced at Tarragon Theatre a year later. The production was also staged at Harbourfront Centre’s World Stage Festival in Toronto in 1996\, directed by Verdecchia. It won the Chalmers Best New Play Award in 1997\, and three MECCA Awards (Montréal English Critics Circle Awards) in 2009. \n \nGuillermo Verdecchia is a director\, playwright\, dramaturge\, and reluctant actor. He is the recipient of the Governor-General’s Award for Drama for his play Fonteras Americanas and a four-time winner of the Chalmers Canadian Play Award. His work\, which includes the Governor General shortlisted Noam Chomsky Lectures (with Daniel Brooks)\, the Adventures of Ali & Ali (with Marcus Youssef and Camyar Chai)\, and Another Country has been anthologized\, translated into Spanish and Italian\, and produced in Europe and the US. He is a Resident Artist with Soulpepper Theatre where he heads New Play Development. \n \nA LINE IN THE SAND\, the Chalmers Award-winning play\, was Marcus Youssef’s first full-length work\, and the first of three collaborations with Guillermo Verdecchia. His other plays include Winners and Losers\, Leftovers\, Jabber\, How Has My Love Affected You?\, Ali and Ali and the aXes of Evil\, Adrift\, and Peter Panties. These have been performed at major festivals and theatres across North America\, Australia and Europe and have been translated into multiple languages and published by Talonbooks and Playwrights Canada Press. Marcus co-founded the East Van artist-run production centre Progress Lab 1422 and is artistic director of Vancouver’s Neworld Theatre.\n \nA LINE IN THE SAND features performances by Dora Award-Winner John Cleland as Colonel (Late Company/Theatre Centre\, This is War/Prairie Theatre Exchange\, A Midsummer Night’s Dream/Canadian Stage); Ryerson Theatre School student  Danny Ghantous as Sadiq (You Can’t Take it With You\, Adult Entertainment\, Filthy Rich//Ryerson Theatre); and Australian-born Toronto- based Morgan David Jones as Mercer (A Streetcar Named Desire opposite Cate Blanchett/Sydney Theatre Company\, Romeo and J uliet/Citadel Theatre).\n \nStripped down to the most fundamental and striking elements\, the Naked Season pares down theatre to a series of pure encounters between the audience\, the actors\, and the text. DESCRIPTION:MOUTH CONGRESS\, a reference to oral sex found in the Sir Richard Burton translation of the Kama Sutra\, was founded in 1984 when Paul Bellini rented a beatbox from Long & McQuade so he and Scott Thompson could jam around the big freezer in their basement. \nAn openly gay punk band at a time when no other existed\, Paul and Scott spent a year writing songs before their first gig\, opening for Bruce McCulloch at The Rivoli. Seemingly destined for greatness\, MOUTH CONGRESS played gigs around Toronto building a cult following.\n\nThey cut a demo in 1986\, which was never released due to Thompson’s increasing success with The Kids in the Hall\, and MOUTH CONGRESS quietly became a Queen Street urban legend.\n\nOver the last few years\, Paul Bellini (who went on to write for KITH) has digitally compiled MOUTH CONGRESS’ entire catalogue of 647 recordings—available atwww.mouthcongress.bandcamp.com—as well as video of every live show plus other ‘home’ movies from the day.\n\n24 years since their last gig\, and 32 years since they were originally formed\, MOUTH CONGRESS will reunite for one night only at The Rivoli on Sunday\, February 21 for an hour of the most ridiculous yet committed rock ’n’ roll since Spinal Tap!\n\nThe evening will be recorded as part of the ongoing documentation of MOUTH CONGRESS.

DESCRIPTION:Harbourfront Centre’s World Stage 2016 will present the Canadian premiere of Badke\, a highly energetic\, politically charged and stylistically diverse performance by 10 Palestinian dancers who integrate the movements of circus\, capoeira and hip hop into traditional folk dance. Only four performances will be presented February 17 – 20 at the Fleck Dance Theatre.\n\nThe title Badke is a play on the Arabic social folk dance “dabke” and the production expresses the universal desire to belong through its fusion of the traditional and contemporary\, and the local and global. These diasporic artists\, who have trained outside of their home country\, perform the traditional dance and infuse it with new proposals\, vocabularies and ideas.\n\n“Badke begins in celebration and one feels the joy of communal dancing; reminding us that dance is a universal\, borderless language\,” explains Artistic Director Tina Rasmussen. “But as the aerobic\, bacchanalian mood heats up\, the tenor shifts and we begin to see isolation\, anxiety\, fear\, and images of protest\, persecution and people under siege. Given the recent terrors on the global stage\, Badke is an accurate and artful reflection of our shared humanity.”\n\nBadke is a collaboration between Belgian choreographers Koen Augustijnen\, Rosalba Torres Guerrero and Hildegard De Vuyst and the Palestinian performers who weave between solo dances and vigorous group pieces all set to an infectious party music score by Naser Al-Fares.\n\nThis is a co-production between the prolific and groundbreaking KVS (the Brussels City Theatre)\, les ballets C de la B\, and the A.M.
