SUMMARY:Orion Sun Heats Up The Drake
DESCRIPTION:Fast-rising multi-instrumentalist\, singer-songwriter\, and producer Orion Sun is coming through The Drake on April 29th. Orion will be bringing all the feels with her phenomenal vocals and heart-touching personal yet relatable songs.\n\nIt’s in support of her debut album Hold Space For Me (out March 27 via Mom + Pop). She recently released two singles from her upcoming debut\, which she wrote and produced\, all on her own. She’s dynamic and incredibly talented\, her creativity knows no bounds as she also provided creative direction for her music videos. Her music is beautiful and ethereal\, but when paired with her unique sound\, it defies genre as she incorporates timeless folk\, jazz\, hip-hop\, and R&B instrumentals.\n\nShe’s someone that a lot of people can relate to and she’s about to go on tour with sold out shows and national buzz on her.\n\n“ [Coffee for Dinner] manages to suffuse a haunting concept with a unique kind of beauty” –THE FADER\n“This artist that has always loved stars and space is well on her way to becoming a star herself.” – NPR\n“the 23-year-old’s voice cuts through as poignant as ever” – HYPEBEAST\n  \nLISTEN TO / STREAM “NE ME QUITTE PAS (DON’T LEAVE ME)”\n\n \n\n\ncover photo by Sophie Hur

SUMMARY:Sudan Archives Arrives at Longboat Hall
DESCRIPTION:Sudan Archives is going to be at Longboat Hall (Part of the Great Hall) on March 6th in support of her debut album Athena. The album (and preceding EPs\, all on Stones Throw) has gotten a *ton* of critical love (epic NYTimes feature\, NPR All Things Considered piece\, glowing review from Guardian\, Jools Holland performance\, etc.). She’s got an amazing look and a wholly original music aesthetic (largely self-produced) that blurs genre boundaries via a sly R&B vocal style\, experimental electronic textures\, classically-inclined violin melodies\, etc. \nShe just dropped this stunning video:

SUMMARY:Danny Brown plays The Phoenix Concert Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Danny Brown is about to drop the best album of his career- just when you’d think he couldn’t outdo himself\, uknowhatimsayin¿ (out 10/4 on WARP) does. He plays Baby’s All Right in New York on July 16 and I can guarantee it will be one of the most energy-driven / raucous / hilarious shows (he usually does a comedy bit at the end\, think Richard Pryor as his album art alludes to) – there’s really no one else like him in hip-hop (or frankly\, on this planet). It’s been almost 10 years since XXX (re-launched) him to fame and everything he’s put out since then (OLD\, Atrocity Exhbition) has been met with both critical and peer fanfare. He also recently launched his show Danny’s House on VICELAND\, with guests including A$AP Rocky\, Hannibal Buress\, Ilana Glazer\, Zack Fox etc.He announced his album with “Dirty Laundry” a few weeks ago and today shared the new Q-Tip produced single “Best Life” \n“Dirty Laundry” video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1okqvhq7ZaI.\nBest Life: https://uknowhatimsayin.com/

DESCRIPTION:Rising alt-pop trio TWIN XL will be joining The Maine on the entirety of their ‘The Mirror’ Tour hitting 27 major markets nationwide this fall. The tour kicks off on October 21 in San Antonio\, TX and wraps on November 30 in Phoenix\, AZ and includes stops in New York City\, Boston\, Chicago\, Seattle\, and Portland. Tickets are available now for purchase on the band’s official website HERE. To kick off today’s announcement\, TWIN XL has launched a contest for fans to win tickets to see them perform with The Maine this fall.  CLICK HERE to enter. \n“Sonically\, we wanted to work in classic instruments\, synthesizers\, and vintage drum machines\,” explains John. “At the same time-because we love hip-hop-we blended these timeless elements with modern rhythmic tendencies. Our music is the result. It’s a mix of lo-fi and hi-fi with retro feels.”\n\n“When you can achieve that warmth\, it’s like listening to a tape or a record\,” Cameron adds. “That classic feeling is the goal.”\nPhoto Credit: KayKay Blaisdell

SUMMARY:French superstar ZAZ at Queen Elizabeth Theatre
DESCRIPTION:“We are thrilled to introduce ZAZ to North American audiences so they can experience first-hand what people on other continents already know\, that she is stunning and dynamic world-class performer\,” said Metropolitan Entertainment Senior Producer Ian Noble. \n“ZAZ is a singular talent. She sold out New York City’s prestigious Town Hall quickly and we’re confident audiences in other cities will be as excited about her show as we are\,” added Metropolitan Entertainment founder John Scher. \nZAZ recently released Effet Miroir [translation: Mirror Effect]\, a studio album comprised entirely of original songs. Combining elements of chanson\, South American guitars\, pop\, salsa and rock\, Effet Miroir is an album of hope that is testament to the beliefs of ZAZ\, an internationally celebrated artist. \nOn Effet Miroir\, ZAZ hopes listeners can find and recognize themselves: “To accept all our facets with their paradoxes is for me\, a way to unite the polarities of our being\,” ZAZ says. The album serves as an illustration of several faces and genres\, just like the diversity of humanity that she had the opportunity to observe and appreciate for several years on the road\, in concert or elsewhere. \nZAZ (born Isabelle Geffroy) has been compared to the likes of Edith Piaf\, Yves Montand and Ella Fitzgerald and her signature voice is celebrated all over the world. Moving from Bordeaux to Paris as a teen\, she set out to seize what would prove a unique destiny. Since the start of her career in 2010 with the seminal hit “Je veux\,” ZAZ has won a multitude of awards\, including French and German Grammys\, and has sold in excess of four million records internationally\, with Gold status or higher in twelve countries. She has performed over 500 shows across five continents\, relentlessly proving that music transcends borders. An artist of global resonance\, her last album\, Paris\, saw her collaborate with the likes of Quincy Jones\, Charles Aznavour and Pablo Alborán. Quincy Jones has noted that ZAZ “has real blues roots in her voice that you’d swear came straight out of the ghetto!” In 2011\, ZAZ joined theLes Enfoirés charity ensemble and has created the project Zazimut to develop and promote projects for a society more respectful of life in all its forms. \nFor more on ZAZ: ZAZ official site / Facebook/ YouTube/ Instagram/ Twitter / Spotify \n  \nPhoto copyright Yann Orhan

SUMMARY:Col3trane @ Rivoli
DESCRIPTION:Col3trane is 19\, Egyptian-American living between the UK & LA. Sonically gets a lot of comparisons to Frank Ocean but he’s got his own lane – opened for Dua Lipa on tour (same management as her and Lana del Rey)\, did sets at Coachella with SG Lewis and FKJ – both who he has songs with\, and has sold out shows in UK\, Europe\, Australia – these are his first here. His Heroine EP dropped on May 31st with features from Goldlink\, RAYE and DJDS. This tour marks his first headlining U.S. Tour which starts in NYC. \n\nConnect:\n\nfacebook.com/col3trane\ntwitter.com/col3trane\nInstagram.com/col3trane\n\n\nBorn and raised in North London to American parents\, his earliest memories of listening to music came from long road trips where the car would be filled with the sounds of Motown\, David Bowie\, Michael Jackson\, and his mum’s favorite\, Prince. Then\, as a small child developing his own taste\, a copy of 50 Cent’s Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ made its way into his possession\, thus beginning a love affair with hip-hop. As a teenager Col3trane took a deep dive into the genre’s golden era: Nas\, Biggie\, and more. It was inevitable that he’d end up making music himself. A lifetime of influences were bubbling under and waiting to burst out.\n\nCol3trane is a bag of exciting contradictions. His music lives a life of its own; experimental. Passionate\, twisted\, and unusual but with an undeniable pop appeal. He’s an artist equally at home on the arena stage as he was creating beats in his bedroom trying to capture the sounds exploding in his head. Ask him who his peers are and he can’t answer\, putting it in the simple but truest term\, “My lane\, it’s a new one.”

SUMMARY:Language Arts Plays the Monarch Tavern
DESCRIPTION:Toronto’s colourfully creative art-pop artist Language Arts will be in Toronto to play the Monarch Tavern on Thursday\, May 23rd. Back with her second single and video from upcoming album Lemon/Lime due out this fall\, “Top of the Top” has been receiving both national and international attention.\n\nSong: https://soundcloud.com/language–arts-1/top-of-the-top/s-nljZ0\nVideo: https://youtu.be/NqWPMzMHJKA\nThe artist\, who is still experiencing post-concussion symptoms after being hit by a drunk driver years ago\, notes that the video “really captures how I feel physically. It’s a window into how I experience my brain injury. Post-concussion syndrome can really diminish my quality of life. Writing this song helped me get these unbearable feelings out of my system and into an expression”. \nAkin to Beck\, each record from Language Arts is a new departure from her previous releases: “Wonderkind” (2014) and “Able Island” (2015). The artist has created a polished sound that nods at New Wave to Vapourware; and Art-Pop to Dance Music. Fragments of Stereolab\, Grizzly Bear\, Ladytron and Psychedelic Furs can be found scattered throughout her upcoming album\, Lemon/Lime.

SUMMARY:White Lies at Mod Club
DESCRIPTION:Hope you are well. Just wanted to send a reminder that White Lies are about to embark on a North American tour and will make a stop in Toronto at Mod Club on May 4.\n\n\nFresh into the new year and just ahead of the release of their new album Five (out 2/1 on [PIAS] Recordings)\, White Lies are pleased to share new track Tokyo along with its accompanying video. Watch it HERE.\n\nDirected by long-time visual collaborator David Pablos\, it was shot back-to-back with the band’s previously- released “Believe It” video in Tijuana\, Mexico at the tail-end of last year. The triumphant synth-laden pop of Tokyo encapsulates the trio’s unerring knack of penning a big tune and is a brilliant precursor to Five.

SUMMARY:
DESCRIPTION:Seminal post-hardcore band La Dispute is coming through Opera House on April 16 with tickets available via the Opera House site. \nIt’s in support of their album Panorama\, their first release w/ Epitaph Records and fourth overall release. Their most-personal project to date that finds them combining elements of jazz\, rock\, slow core\, noise\, hardcore among others on the 10 track label debut. Opening for them will be Gouge Away and Slow Mass. Live show is incredibly fun\, entertaining\, and full of high energy – they pride themselves in connecting with their fans. \n\nPanorama was produced by the band in tandem with return producer Will Yip (Quicksand\, Braid\, Code Orange\, Nothing\, Title Fight) Panorama combines jazz\, rock\, slowcore\, noise\, hardcore among other influences over the span of 10 tracks. Most of what happens on the album takes place on the route singer Jordan Dreyer and his partner would drive from their home in the East Hills neighborhood of Grand Rapids to the city of Lowell\, where she grew up. Everywhere along the drive are places where\, in varying degrees of recency\, people have died: a pond where a man drowned walking home in the winter\, multiple places where people crashed driving drunk or were killed in car accidents\, and one place where years prior a city worker found a Jane Doe decomposed. Panorama is intended to be a wide angled shot of that drive\, with the stories of those tragedies becoming focal points but filtered through the sieve of the couple’s life together.\n\nTheir national spring tour in support of the album kicks off April 13th with a sold out hometown Grand Rapids show making stops at New York\, DC\, Chicago\, Los Angeles and Toronto and Vancouver as their only Canadian stops.\nLISTEN TO “RHODONITE AND GRIEF:\n \n“ROSE QUARTZ / FULTON STREET 1”:\n \n“FOOTSTEPS AT THE POND”:\n \nPHOTO CREDIT:  Pooneh Ghana

SUMMARY:Giraffage Takes on Velvet Underground
DESCRIPTION:His releases get millions of plays and his debut album Too Real is coming out 10/20.\n\nThis is big since he went from being a blog favorite to now playing some of the biggest music festivals across the world. The album features Japanese Breakfast\, Body Language’s Angelica Bess + more\, it’s a very intimate and personal project (made it while fighting depression. He didn’t step outside of his home for two years) and chronicles his personal journey of self healing\, with each song representing a different period in his life. He builds beautiful atmospheres that bring to life a genuine experience. Check out his music below and let me know if you think you can help)\, let me know if you want to hear it. He actually flipped The-Dream’s ‘Love/Hate’ in its entirety and it blew him up. Last week he released his new song “Maybes” feat. Japanese Breakfast (music below).\n\nHe’s the son of Taiwanese immigrants who expected him to become a lawyer/doctor but instead followed his dream – making music\, which caused a cultural strain. He’s more artful than his peers at the EDM festivals he gets booked for and makes beautiful dreamy synth-pop and R&B melodies.\n\nListen to:\n\n“Maybes” feat.
