Canadian Championship Boxing: Denton “Dangerous Daley Vs. Sylvera “Sly” Louis in Toronto Ontario, Canada

The sport of boxing has been a staple in my household since I was a child. On Saturday nights in the mid-Nineties and early 2000’s, my father and I would tune in to HBO’s Boxing After Dark and watch our favourite fighters go toe-to-toe. Fighters like Roy Jones Jr., Oscar De La Hoya, Felix Trinidad and Lenox Lewis would come into our homes and captivate us with their raw skill, aggression and finesse as they fought and danced their way around the ring. In recent years boxing’s popularity has dwindled due to the surge in popularity of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).  There is however still a core fan base of the sport, many of whom still yearn for boxing to return to its glory days.

On Friday September 9, 2016, heavyweight boxing legend Lennox Lewis and Les Woods, CEO of Global Legacy Boxing will host a 12 round Commonwealth British Empire Championship main event bout between Denton “Dangerous” Daley & Slyvera “Sly” Lewis at the Masonic Temple in downtown Toronto.  Lewis and Woods bring GLB V… The Legacy Continues to the city for its first Commonwealth title bout in nearly 20 years.

Denton “Dangerous” Daley:

Denton Daley is a Canadian born fighter from Mississauga, Ontario. He is the former cruiserweight North American Boxing Association and North American Boxing Federation champion.  His record stands at an astonishing record of 15 wins – 1 loss, with 8 of those wins delivered by knockout (15-1-8), making him the #1 ranked boxer in Canada.

Sylvera “Sly” Louis:

Montreal Quebec’s Sylvera Louis is currently the Canadian Cruiserweight Champion, a title he has managed to hold on to since winning the title in 2014 at the former Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. In 2007, “Sly” was named Canada’s “Boxer of the Year” which had been previously won by Lennox Lewis and Shawn O’Sullivan.  Louis is ranked as the #2 fighter in Canada behind “Dangerous” Daley with a record of 8 wins – 4 losses with 4 of those wins by knockout (8-4-4).

This event promises to bring more than its fair share of excitement with a stellar undercard featuring Global Legacy Boxing Fighters:

  • Oleksandr Teslenko
  • Sandy “Lil Tyson” Tsagouris
  • Michael Brandon.
  • Marx Munoz Francia

Global Legacy Boxing’s mandate to “bring professional boxing back to the mainstream of Canadian sports and entertainment” is off to a kick-start with this event on Friday September 9th.
