The Esmeralda Enrique Spanish Dance Company’s (EESDC) celebrates its 35thanniversary with An Iconic Journey: A Celebration of 35 Years which runs Friday, May 5 – Sunday, May 7, 2017 at Harbourfront Centre’s Fleck Dance Theatre.
Valued for its important pioneering contribution to the development of flamenco in Canada the Esmeralda Enrique Spanish Dance Company peerlessly stands on the pillars of traditional flamenco singing, dance and music while beautifully balancing classicism with a contemporary aesthetic.
Artistic Director Esmeralda Enriquemarks this 35 year-milestone with a presentation that honours EESDC’s significant accomplishments with re-imaginings of past works as well as fresh and inventive new creations.
An Iconic Journeyshowcases the consummate artistry of the Esmeralda Enrique Spanish Dance Company ensemble, known for its gorgeous, ferocious, passionate dancing.
The program includes two world premieres – one from Artistic Director Esmeralda Enriqueand one from Ana Morales, an acclaimed choreographer of contemporary flamenco from Seville, Spain that EESDC commissioned for her powerful expression and innovation – as well as a number of beautifully revised and reworked creations, from traditional to contemporary.
