Following the success of his Juno-nominated album, Beautiful Freakshow, current CCMA Fan’s Choice, 16-time CCMA Award winner and 2-time Juno Award winning artist Dean Brody will perform his second headline show at Budweiser Stage Friday, August 17th, along with Canadian musician and lead singer of Canadian folk-rock band Great Big Sea, Alan Doyle, and American star, Michael Ray.
Ahead of the show, we caught up with Dean to ask him a few questions.
The Scene: Did the inspiration for this next album coming well touring for Beautiful Freakshow?
Dean: The bulk of my new material was inspired by sitting around my piano at home in Nashville. It’s one of my favourite places to just hang out and noodle on ideas. Sometimes cool stuff just happens, sometimes it doesn’t. The creative process is still a big mystery to me!
The Scene: What can fans expect this time around at your performance? Last year there were a lot of surprise guests.
Dean: We have even more special guests this year! It’s going to be a busy night and different than any other show we do during the year
The Scene: Alan Doyle returns this year, any collaborations in the works between the two of you?
Dean: Alan has been so gracious with sharing his time and talent with me, I’m still a huge fan. His writing on these latest albums has been amazing. we have nothing new in the works but I’d love to collaborate again someday
The Scene: What inspired the team up with Twisted Tea and the concept to shoot your video for Dose of Country this way?
Dean: The song lyric imagery speaks to getting out of the city and chilling with friends which fits perfectly with the Twisted Tea vibe. The outdoors and country music resonate with both myself and Twisted Tea.
In a ‘twist’ of fate, Brody is teaming up with Twisted Tea for the summer, which will involve a contest and collaboration to host the ultimate summer party. The contest, which opens on May 30 at www.twistedtea.com/Twistedteaparty, will give one lucky fan the opportunity to host a summer bash with an unbelievable twist — not only will Dean Brody and his band perform live for the winner and their closest friends at the party, but it will also be the setting for the music video shoot for Brody’s second single, “Dose of Country”.
The Scene: Is there ever a time for a break or are you already working on more songs?
Dean: I’m always trying to write new things. Always hoping I run into something special out there in the creative universe. It’s like fishing, you never know when you’re going to get onto a good one!
The Scene: You mentioned wanting to perform at the George Street festival. Did that happen last year?
Dean: Not yet. Every time I’m in St. John’s it’s during the week! I HAVE to get there during the weekend. I’ve heard it’s epic
Fans can also catch Brody on the festival circuit this summer at Trackside Music Festival (ON), Country Thunder (SK), Country Thunder (AB), and Havelock Country Jamboree (ON).
