Art Toronto, a convergence of the world’s most stunning exhibition of modern and contemporary art returns this fall to the AGO, themed: FOCUS ASIA. In a short (but sweet) four-day fair, a myriad of collectors, curators and art enthusiasts (18k+ to be exact!) will flock to an exclusive showcase of over a hundred top galleries from 23 countries.
Given the theme, this year’s Art Toronto has Asian art and their artists lending their growing influence on the contemporary art world. The exhibition, which will feature works from both established and emerging Asian galleries, is curated by the esteemed managing editor of Yishu Journal of Contemporary Chinese Art, Zheng Shengtian, and independent curator – Katherine Don. In this cross section – art enthusiasts can expect a culturally ambiguous and non-traditional selection of installations and video work asking viewers to re-examine their understanding and preconceived notions of Asia.
Another Asia-inspired piece includes Aaron Taylor Kuffner’sThe Gamelatron which is (and how cool is this?) the world’s first fully robotic gamelan orchestra! It’s hard to miss this site-specific piece as it will be installed in the entrance hall to the fair.
