There were a myriad of words that flew through my head as Joe Fresh presented their Spring-Summer 2012 collection at LG Fashion Week. However, watching the bright citrus colours and clean lines head down the runway, only one word came to mind – fresh. The 1960’s pop inspired collection which “draws on a sexy Mykonos-meetsAcapulco feel” came to life on the runway and brought some serious joy to the dark and dreary week we had in Toronto.
I was particularly drawn to the white button down shirts with contrasting coloured collars and the full floor length skirts that came in black, white, yellow and of course, Joe’s signature orange. These versatile pieces can easily take you from day to night. It was great to see Joe Fresh step up their tailoring and design, which was evident in the slim cut shirts, denim, and adorable shift dresses.
I may be partial to the women’s line, but, I have to say, Joe Fresh is reaching out to men more than ever. They presented a doubled-in-scale menswear collection which included bold printed blazers, white pants, coloured denim and bright cardigans. The menswear is not for the faint of heart but taking the individual pieces and working them into your wardrobe is a great way to incorporate colour and interest into your closet this spring.
The Joe Fresh runway collections are available at select stores, but you can find any number of fun pieces at your local Joe stores year-round.
We may have a long Canadian winter ahead of us, but at least the promise of warmer days and affordable citrus frocks will make the sub-zero temperatures a little more bearable.
