My dearest darlingest readers,
I am writing you to announce my departure to Tel Aviv, Israel, for the fall semester. I will be studying abroad halfway across the world (actually, I’m here now)!
But in the spirit of TheSceneinTO, I summoned my innovative prowess— and have resolved not to let this journey go un-shared. Though my body is no longer inToronto, my heart still wants to find its way back home. Here is how we will do it: henceforth until my return toToronto, I will be putting out a recurring editorial titled: “Postcards from Tel Aviv.” The weekly piece will be in a very similar voice to all of the local pieces you’re accustomed to reading. In fact, what I aim to do is to share my journey here in an interactive, DIY type way. If I review a restaurant, for example, I will attempt to equate it with a similar experience or ambiance of a restaurant inToronto. If it’s a piece about an event in Tel Aviv, I might give advice on how to find a similar form of enrichment over in the land of the maple leaf.
The point is, we’re friends now, you and I. Mi travels es su travels. And I can breathe a sigh of relief while abroad when I remind myself that “Postcards From Tel Aviv” is a way to find a little taste of home in this mysterious, wonderful new place.
Israel-ly yours,
Sam
