Travelling with children this summer?
Hotels.ca has got you covered with a list of 10 tips to make travelling with youngsters a little easier.
1) Pack Light
Bring only what you really need.
Indeed, kids do need a lot of things but call the hotel you’re staying at ahead of time and see if they have items you can cut from your packing list.
2) Expect the Unexpected
Not to contradict the first tip, but make sure you have everything you need in your carry on such as diapers, wipes, snacks, coloring book etc.
3) Bring toys and games (quiet ones)
Be sure to bring something to keep your young ones entertained. (You’ll be thanking yourself later for this) Kids can get bored easily so make sure they have a backpack where they can keep all the stuff they want to do while on the trip.
4) Car Seats
Even if you’re travelling by plane, you’re still allowed to bring a car seat with you.
Car seats do not count as checked luggage on any airline so you will not be charged.
5) Airplane Seats
If your child is under the age of two, then he/she does not need a paid seat on the plane. Although be prepared to prove your child’s age (such as with a birth certificate)
6) Security Screening
This can delay you and your family if you are not prepared. Keep in mind medications, baby formula and food are allowed in reasonable quantities (not exceeding three ounces) and are not required to be in the zip-top bag. Babies do have to take off their shoes, too
7) Eat Breakfast Where Kids Eat Free
Believe it or not there are restaurants out there that have free breakfasts for kids.
Many do free meals for kids (with the purchase of an adult meal) on different days of the week.
8) Bring your own stroller
Travelling with a stroller can save you a great deal of money especially at a place like a theme park where you’re already splurging. Bringing your own stroller can save you anywhere from $7 to $30 a day (for a double) in rental fees.
9) Refillable Water Bottles
Not only are you helping the environment but you’re also helping your wallet.
A family of four could easily spend $20 or more a day just buying water.
10) The Most Important Tip of All
Be flexible. It’s really important that you keep an open mind. Lines will be long, traffic will be heavy, flights will be delayed and children (and adults) will get grumpy. As long as you are flexible and easy going you will have a great time travelling.
