So close you can almost taste it. True Blood returns in June The enemies get closer in Season 3 of True Blood The long awaited third season of the cult HBO vampire hit ‘True Blood’ premiers on Sunday, June 13 at 9 p.m. EST. Bon Temps, Louisiana and many living rooms all across North America will be heating up in June when the new season airs. Keep reading for a link to a sneak peek video clip. Executive produced and created by Oscar and Emmy winner Alan Ball, True Blood is based on the best-selling Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris. Having read a few of the books, I can honestly say that this is one small screen adaptation that is by far and away, much better than the books they draw their material from. While the books exhibit subpar writing, the series writers and the actors themselves deliver a much more captivating story that keeps you eagerly anticipating more. For those of you who are not in the know, the series follows the colourful residents of a small Louisiana town where thanks to the Japanese invention of mass-produced synthetic blood, vampires live openly and sometimes hesitantly, amongst their human counterparts. While the blood can sustain the vamps, the real thing is what they crave. Why settle for table wine when you can have vintage? Packed with seasoned actors, True Blood never disappoints. The main three characters are vampires Bill Compton, played by Stephen Moyer, Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) and their human love interest Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin). To be sure, the show is full of interesting and well loved characters. In one instance where the show’s writers were right in deviating from Harris’ plot, was keeping Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis) alive. This black, flamboyant gay male is undoubtedly one of the fan’s favourite actors. Then there’s the ever so sexy Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten). Stackhouse is every cougar’s dream: young, buff and not very smart. A woman just wants to spank him and do bad things to him. The new season of True Blood will be simulcast on HBO Canada HD, and will be available on demand. The first episode will also be available on The Movie Network OnLine with Bell TV following its network premiere. Just curious.. Reply Nursing Online May 30, 2010 Great post! Reply Sookie Stackhouse April 21, 2010 Your article is pretty desent but I can’t believe you think that the books aren’te very good. I’ve read the whole series and I thought that they were just about the best thing. Yuore right though, the show is really great and they do a good job about keeping it real and sort of sticking to the storys original. I’m not to shore about the whole homosexual stuff being so rampant but hey, otehr than that it’s so darn good. Reply Buffy April 21, 2010 I love this post! What you said about Jason is so true. I haven’t read the books but I can’t believe that the author would have killed off Lafayette. He is one of reasons I keep watching the show. I heard that in the books tara isn’t black and doesn’t really have a big part of the story. Is this true? Reply Janelle Watkins April 21, 2010 Sookie, I should let you know that I haven’t read all of the books in Ms. Harris’ series, but to answer your question, no, Tara is not black in the book and she doesn’t have a major role in any of the three books I’ve read so far. That being said, for the show’s purposes, I don’t think it matters that Tara is black or that her character plays an important role in Sookie’s life. Besides her colourful language, Tara’s character adds another dimension to the show and I don’t think that’s a bad thing. Reply Janelle Watkins April 8, 2010 Agreed, the Marianne bit felt like it went on for too long, but things look like they’ll be heating up between Sookie and Eric with Bill gone missing. I for one can’t wait. Reply Alejandro Perreira April 8, 2010 The third season better be good, because last season kind of dragged on a bit.
